First Holy Communion is always a very special time for our children! All children (and adults) who are in second grade and above are most welcome to prepare for and receive First Holy Communion.
Prior to First Holy Communion students must be enrolled in at least one year of Religious Education at St. Mary's or attend St. Mary's School. For older children we provide a "Special Sacraments" class to help them prepare.

You can also attend our 22 classes on "Understanding our Catholic Faith"which is offered by our RCIA team and will help you prepare for receiving the Eucharists.
The parents of students to receive sacraments such as First Holy Communion are required to attend the 'God Is! Day of Renewal' Retreat. This will be offered two times a year from 8:00 am- 4:30 pm (and please feel free to attend Saturday night Mass): Saturday, November 19, 2016; or Saturday, March 4, 2017. There is a $25 charge per family for the retreat that will cover continental breakfast, lunch and snacks. Other options are an Emmaus weekend retreat (offered annually), the That Man Is You program for dads, or the parish mission (all three nights) on December 4-6.
In addition, a meeting for First Communion Parents will be in October 19, 2016 at 7 pm in the church. It is expected that at least one parent of each First Communicant will be at the meeting as we will review particular details.
Candidates for First Holy Communion are expected to enroll in 1st Grade (or earlier) in order to have at least two years of Catholic Education before receiving First Communion in 2nd Grade. Children beyond 3rd Grade who have not yet received First Communion will be enrolled in "Special Sacrament Class" which meets at the regular class time of 4 to 5:15 pm on Wednesdays beginning on September 14, 2016. We also have classes in Spanish for those children who are not yet fluent in English.
